Search Engine Optimization is an ongoing process that needs patience, nurturing and efficiency to play a big part in it. So here are a few do’s and don’ts that might be of use to you.
· Don’t jump into SEO too early. Develop your product or service thoroughly, come up with good content and most importantly identify your target market. When you have done all this is when you should look into SEO.
· Don’t focus your site on SEO. It should be invisible to users; otherwise it will only end up annoying them.
· Don’t expect SEO to magically change the numbers overnight. SEO needs a lot of work and a lot of experimentation and that means a lot of time. Have faith in your developers and give them fairly reasonable amount of time to show results.
· Don’t listen to everyone’s advice on SEO and take it as the gospel truth. If you need to, try out their advice but try to find what works for you best.
· DO try and put resources in the hands of the development team. To get good results, the teams will have to have all the resources they can get.
· DO incorporate SEO into your business flow. Get every department from sales to PR thinking about it and how they can use it.
· DO encourage creativity. ROI is important but focusing on it too much will only clamp down on creativity.
· DO try to stay open minded about risks. The more options that are tried out the greater the chances of the team succeeding with their SEO efforts. Stagnating will definitely turn into failure so risk taking is a good practice to have in the case of SEO efforts.
