The Story of the Lost Email

In the article, “Your Mail Has Vanished,” Michael Specter writer takes the reader on a journey to find an email that was lost in transit. It starts with a person at The New Yorker who tells him that he didn’t get his email. Curious, he wonders if there is a way to find it.

It’s an interesting story of how he tracked down the lost email, first checking with servers and then with his internet service provider. He final gets a tour of AT&T’s POP server. In his search to find the lost email, he discovers how email travels and the different ways in which people can track them. Written in 1999, the article reveals some interesting facts about email and the internet. It reveals just how fast email caught on around the world; faster than the telephone, fax, and even computers.
